Chief executive

Find out more about our chief executive Althea Loderick.

Althea Loderick has been the Chief Executive of London Borough of Southwark since May 2022. 

Prior to joining Southwark, Althea was the Chief Executive of Newham council, the fourth largest local authority in London.  She went to Newham from Brent Council where she was the the Strategic Director for Resources and prior to that she was the Chief Operating Officer in Waltham Forest Council. 

Before Althea returned to local government in 2010, she was a director in a national policing improvement agency where she led people strategy, workforce modernisation and change programmes affecting the policing workforce of almost 250,000 officers and staff. Prior to this, she was a deputy director in the National Offender Management Service where she was the lead for people strategy and workforce change.  Althea has also worked at Enfield and Hammersmith and Fulham Councils and been a management development consultant in the private sector but spent the first 10 years of her career working in supported housing organisations for homeless and vulnerable people. 

Althea is also the Chief Executives of London Councils Lead Advisor for the portfolio of Crime and Public Protection and has held London wide roles to achieve equality and combat racism and discrimination in large employers As one of the more experienced London chief executives, Althea enjoys supporting the development of aspiring and new chief executives with the London Councils and the Society of Local Authority Chief Executive programmes.

When not working, she enjoys cycling with women’s social rides groups, working out and quality time with family and friends.
