Councillor Ali wishes to support the following three local charity groups for this municipal year.
SpeakerBox is Southwark’s Children in Care Council. They have events and opportunities for young people in care and leaving care.
Ballers Academy is a sports provider based in Southwark. They aim to inspire and increase sports participation for people of all ages and abilities. They do this through high-quality football, multi-sports, and mentoring programmes. They're addressing inequality and creating pathways for personal development, health improvement, volunteering, education, training, and employment. Ballers Academy engages with over 1,000 individuals weekly and strives to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background, has the opportunity to succeed and thrive.
ActionAid is an international charity that works with women and girls living in poverty. They have dedicated local staff who work to change the world with women and girls. They work to end violence and fight poverty so that all women, everywhere, can create the future they want.
Cllr Ali said ‘I am proud to have been appointed as the FGM Ambassador for Southwark and look forward to working with Actionaid to tackle the harmful practice of Female Genital Mutilation.’
