This makes it even more important for us to put in controls around how we use, store and process our data. We will follow the guidance from experts and ensure that our systems are hardened and locked down to keep attackers.

Cyber incidents are on the rise, especially within public sector. We know that the effects of these are serious and widespread. Having your personal information stolen can be disturbing, even life altering in some cases.

It is important that we put the right controls in place to protect and react to cyber threats in the future. We have a strong relationship with National Cyber Security Centre and other private cyber agencies which we will harness to help us to protect the data of our residents.

We want to use technology to improve the lives of local people. Our cyber security strategy will safeguard us all. It will build confidence in the way we operate and keep us at the forefront of the digital revolution.

What we will deliver

Our cyber security initiative involves several key projects designed to improve our resilience against cyber threats.

Security awareness training programme

We'll educate staff on best practices, recognising phishing attempts, and understanding their role in maintaining a secure digital environment.

Endpoint protection enhancement

We'll strengthen endpoint security measures by using advanced antivirus solutions, intrusion detection systems, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools. These will safeguard all of our devices and services.

Network security upgrades

We'll upgrade and strengthen our network infrastructure with robust firewalls and intrusion prevention systems. We'll carry out regular security audits to identify and fix vulnerabilities in our network architecture.

Incident response and management

We'll develop and refine our incident response plan to any cybersecurity incidents. This will involve setting up a designated response team, communication protocols, and continuous improvement based on lessons learned.

Regular vulnerability assessments

We'll conduct routine vulnerability assessments and penetration test. These will identify potential weaknesses in our IT infrastructure that we can fix.

Data encryption measures

We'll implementing robust encryption protocols for sensitive data, both in transit and at rest, ensuring that confidential information is secure.

Supply chain security 

In strengthening cyber security measures throughout our supply chain, we'll ensure that all of the companies we work with meet our high security standards.

Security governance and compliance

We'll establish a comprehensive cyber security governance framework to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards. We'll continuously monitor and adapt to emerging cyber security threats.

Cyber security awareness campaigns

We'll conduct ongoing awareness campaigns to keep staff informed about the latest cyber security threats. We want to promote a culture of vigilance, and encourage reporting of any suspicious activities.
