Grants are funds you don't have to repay and can be used for items like furniture, equipment, or vouchers.

Emergency grants

The Southwark Emergency Support Scheme (SESS) helps Southwark residents in crisis. 

You can apply if you or your partner are receiving one of the following benefits or have applied for them in the past 6 weeks:

  • Universal Credit
  • Income Support
  • Jobseeker's Allowance (income-based)
  • Employment Support Allowance (income-based)
  • Pension Credit

Hardship grants for Southwark residents

St George the Martyr Charity supports adults experiencing financial hardship living in Borough, Bankside, Walworth and Newington.

If you’re: 

  • over 55 you can contact the charity directly
  • under 55 you need a referral from a public or voluntary sector organisation

Grants for young people in education

Newcomen Collett Foundation is a local charity that provides grants to support young people under the age of 25 in Southwark.

St Olave’s Foundation supports Southwark students under 25 in higher or further education and apprenticeships. They provide grants for laptops, printers, books, expenses, and musical instruments for vocational training.
