We offer this payment to help with housing costs. You can get it if you already get Housing Benefit or the housing part of Universal Credit.
Funding is limited and when it runs out no further applications are accepted.
We usually award Discretionary Housing Payments (DHPs) for short periods.
We give them to those trying to help themselves. They might be looking for work, a new place to live or a long-term solution to their money problems.
DHPs aren't automatically renewed.
We prioritise funds for the most vulnerable people who are experiencing exceptional financial hardship.
Backdated payments are unlikely. But, we'll consider them if there's a good reason for the delay and you provide proof.
If you disagree with our decision, you can ask for it to be reconsidered. You need to contact us within one month of the date on your decision letter and provide all extra documentation requested (if applicable).
