Check if you can get Housing Benefit
Housing Benefit is a benefit to help some people pay their rent.
How much you get depends on your household income, circumstances and housing arrangements.
However, most people of working age now claim for help with their housing costs as part of a claim for Universal Credit.
Some people may be able to get Housing Benefit instead. This includes people who:
- are of state pension age
- live in supported, sheltered or temporary housing
Check GOV.UK for Housing Benefit eligibility, supporting documents and payments.
There are different rules if you're a private tenant. What you can get will depend on your Local Housing Allowance (LHA). We can't pay more money in Housing Benefit than the amount you pay in rent.
