Honor Oak Crematorium is situated in Camberwell New Cemetery. It is the only crematorium in Southwark.
It was opened in 1939 by Lord Horder and designed by the borough architects, William Bell and Maurice Webb. Maurice was the son of Sir Aston Webb, whose company designed Camberwell New Cemetery.
The crematorium offers a columbarium and cloisters to the south and is set within six acres of landscaped grounds. The building is in the Italianate style, with its chimney resembling the Cathedral Campanile at Venice, and is also noted for its beautiful stained glass window. During 2018, significant works were conducted to refurbish and restore the facilities to a high standard.
The crematorium is listed with a Grade II heritage status. You can visit the Historic England website to see its entry in the National Heritage List for England.
The Gardens of Remembrance provide a tranquil space to reflect and remember loved ones. Our gardens are home to many memorials, rose beds, trees, woodland and shrubberies. There is also Little Haven, our dedicated children and baby memorial garden.
Honor Oak Crematorium has an online book of remembrance.
