You can apply to make payment arrangements (called Step-by-Step) to reduce your debts to us and repay the money you owe.

Working out a Step-by-Step payment arrangement

We can join together (consolidate) any debts you have for:

• council tax enforcement agents
• business rates enforcement agents
• housing benefit overpayment
• rent arrears
• general invoices

You can then clear them with one regular manageable payment called a ‘recovery payment’.

Our commitment to you

If you make a Step-by-Step payment arrangement, we’ll:

• stop all recovery action
• support and direct you to help where needed
• consolidate’ the amounts you owe

Your commitment to us

If you make a Step-by-Step payment arrangement, you’ll need to:

• pay your recovery payment
• keep paying ongoing bills (such as Rent and Council Tax)
• keep in contact with us if your circumstances change

Make a payment arrangement

We’ll confirm in writing if we accept your arrangement proposal. If we need more information, we’ll contact you and put debt recovery on hold to give you more time.
