Food safety rules for businesses

Overview

All food businesses must follow hygiene and safety rules, including:

  • caterers
  • primary producers (such as farmers)
  • manufacturers
  • distributors
  • retailers

How you must operate depends on the size and type of your business. 

You normally have to have written records:

  • of your procedures 

  • to show you’re sticking to the procedures
