Chaperone licences
You need a licence if you're appointed to protect children while they're modelling, performing on stage, or appearing in TV or film.
Children working as performers and models need a chaperone. They make sure children:
- know what is expected of them
- are happy and in good health
- follow health and safety procedures
- receive tutoring
- are kept occupied during downtime
- have breaks and meals
Read the children in entertainment restrictions guidance (PDF 30kb) for the hours a child can work in performance, what breaks they should take and what tuition they'll need.
Chaperone licences and requirements
Chaperones must have a:
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Certificate background check and references
- chaperone licence
- good knowledge of chaperone regulation guidance (PDF 49kb)
Fees
There is no fee for a chaperone licence.
An enhanced DBS check costs £42.85.
