Club gaming machine and prize gaming permits
If you run a club that wants to have gaming machines or higher-value gaming on its premises, you need to apply for a permit.
Clubs have to apply for a permit to provide gaming machines or high-value gaming on their premises.
Club gaming machine permits
Club gaming machine permits let any club (including commercial clubs) operate up to 3 gaming machines for members only.
Club gaming permits
Club gaming permits are only available to clubs operated by and for the benefit of their members. They are not available to commercial clubs.
They allow up to 3 gaming machines, and also let the club offer prize gaming for club members without limits on the stakes and prizes (but other restrictions may apply).
Club types
Any club applying for a permit must:
- have at least 25 permanent individual members
- not be established only to operate for a limited period
- not be established and conducted wholly or mainly to provide gambling facilities (with the exception of bridge and whist clubs)

Permits are valid for 10 years. You must apply to renew a permit between 6 and 12 weeks before it expires.

You must pay the first fee 30 days after we grant the permit, and then annually. We may take away a permit if the annual fee is not paid.
Appealing a permit refusal
You can appeal to the magistrates’ court if your application for a club machine or club gaming permit is refused.
You can appeal to the magistrates’ court if your application is refused, or if you object to any conditions listed on the permit.
