You must apply for a street works licence to excavate the public highway and work on cables, ducts and pipes.
A Section 50 licence allows the placing or retention of apparatus in the street and the rights to adjust, repair, alter or renew it. You must obey all conditions laid down by the New Road and Street Works Act 1991 and its associated codes of practice.
The apparatus must be kept in good condition and must also comply with any safety conditions we impose.
You must be responsible for every aspect of the works.
