Tower cranes (oversail) licence
You'll need a licence to either use a crane that sails over a public highway.
You need a licence if you plan to use a tower crane that will oversail the public highway during development works.
Before you start
You must have:
- planning permission for the related development
- a plan of the crane location, including the area that will be oversailed

We recommend applying for the licence a minimum of 3 months before the crane is due to be installed.

Fees
You'll need to pay:
- an annual fee of £250 (payable on the completion of the agreement and each year the licence is active)
- legal fees (approximately £3,500)
If you cancel a licence, you will be charged a cancellation fee of 30% of the licence fee.
