You need a private operator licence to operate a market with five or more pitches in Southwark, whether it’s on public or private land.
Applying for a private market operator licence
Complete the application for a market operator licence:
- for locations near the River Thames or main transport locations tier 1 application form (PDF, 274kb)
- for all other locations across the borough tier 2 application form (PDF, 277kb)
Other licences you may need
You need a temporary event notice (TEN) to sell alcohol at your market.
Operators must ensure that all food stalls at your market are registered food businesses. They also need the right food and hygiene certificates.
Operators also need to make sure all waste is removed from the market.
