Through round two we funded a variety of great projects and initiatives to help Southwark’s high streets adapt to a range of challenging economic factors, and become thriving, adaptable spaces that are fit for the future.

Alexandra Rose Charity

The Thriving High Streets Funds grant to fund Rose Vouchers to support 80 families on low incomes; and provides new promotional and publicity material to raise the profile of the project, boost business for our partner traders and enhance the shopping experience for families.

Balamii

Balamii is a London-based online radio station broadcasting from the heart of Peckham that has made a significant mark on the digital broadcasting landscape since its inception. Founded in 2014 with the goal of showcasing underground music talent, Balamii provides a platform for DJs, producers, and musicians from a wide array of genres, including but not limited to hip-hop, jazz, electronic, and dance music. The ethos of Balamii centres around community and innovation, it is a cultural hub that fosters connections between artists and listeners.

Hosting four filmed live music events showcasing local talent to attract 1,600 visitors to Rye Lane over the course of the funding period.

Big Local Works

Support for a minimum of 24 entrepreneurs and start-up businesses at the Blue Market including advantageous 'Market Trading' support and an active and immersive 'Business Skills' Training programme." This support programme will be designed for local entrepreneurs wanting to start a small business in their community. It will draw on all the experience of the start-up support programmes we have offered here over the past 4 years

Elephant & Castle Business Forum

The Urban Elephant Festival celebrates art, music, and dance under the 'World on One Street' theme, honouring the multicultural communities shaping the area. The 3-day festival is expected to deliver 9,000 in increased footfall over this period

“To revitalise East St market to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that attracts increased footfall and trade. By empowering traders and promoting cultural events, the project seeks to improve the traders self-governance, customer service and understanding of equalities and diversity.”

In Good Company (InGC), based in Southwark’s Peckham, is a tech-for-good company dedicated to driving growth for small, ethical, and sustainable ‘good’ businesses within hospitality, retail, and entertainment

Digital Shift is a new innovation support and digital skills programme from London College of Communication (UAL) which has been co-designed with local businesses to provide SMEs in Elephant & Castle/Walworth with access to no-cost expert digital support.

Lost Text Found Space

Lost Text/Found Space is a small, Peckham-based theatre company focused on making immersive, site-specific performances and community projects in re-discovered spaces. Local arts and community groups will co-create workshops, discussions, movie screenings, live music, talent shows and installations.

The PBF, with its membership model, promotes growth, collaboration & shared success, led by & for local enterprises, bridging the gap in support. With over 400 members, and as a resource for a further 800+ non-members, the PBF is becoming indispensable to our historically marginalised, diverse business-community.

Tree Shepherd

Tree Shepherd aims to support BAME and women-owned businesses in Southwark by providing comprehensive training, mentoring, and mental health support. Recognising the unique challenges faced by these entrepreneurs, especially in the wake of COVID-19 and the cost-of-living crisis, our project seeks to empower them with the skills, resources, and resilience needed to thrive in today's economic landscape.
