Southwark Culture Health and Wellbeing Partnership
Find out how this independent network tackles health inequalities through culture.
Southwark is a diverse community and experiences many health and social inequalities and challenges.
Southwark Culture Health and Wellbeing Partnership (SCHWeP) is a cross-sector, independent network of more than 150 members that addresses these inequalities through culture.
SCHWeP’s key strands of work are:
- tackling health inequalities
- social prescribing – practical and emotional support where a GP, hospital, charity or other organisation connects you to support to improve health and wellbeing
- children and young people’s mental health
For example, the network has run a series of projects, connecting local providers, artists and organisations to improve community wellbeing. Anyone can join, including artists, organisations, healthcare providers and researchers.
The approach is:
- community-based
- person-centred
- bringing together the expertise and experience from the cultural community and health and care system
We’re one of the first councils to work in this way.
