How to become a member
You do not have to live in Southwark to be a member.
Join Southwark Libraries online now
When you join online, you'll be given a temporary membership number.
You'll get immediate access to all our digital library services.
You’ll have 4 months to come into a library with your proof of address and get your permanent library card.
Having an online account gives you unlimited renewals of items you’ve borrowed. This means you can avoid getting a fine for overdue items.
Get a library card
To get a library card, visit any Southwark library.
Bring your temporary membership number and one form of ID with your full name and current address, for example:
- a recent utilities bill from the last 6 months
- rent book, proof of child benefit or pension
- current driving licence
- bank statement from the last 6 months
You’ll need to can either fill in a form or join online.
If you’re under 18, a parent or carer will need to sign the form as your guarantor.
When you sign up for membership at Southwark libraries, you’ll receive a free library card which is also a Southwark Presents card. This gives offers and discounts at cultural venues across Southwark.
