From poetry to knitting, find a group to inspire you at one of our libraries.

We have a variety of free creative and educational groups in Southwark Libraries. Join us to meet new people or try a new skill.

Book groups

If you love reading and want to talk about books in an informal and friendly environment, join a book group.

Short story group

Our library Officers will read a short story to the group for discussion.

Creative writing group

Attendees are given a choice of scenarios to choose from, and then write a short piece to share with the group.

Poetry group

Our library officers choose two or three poems on a theme, like nature or childhood. They read them aloud for the group to discuss. You can also bring along a favourite poem to share.

Knitting and crochet groups

Groups for knitters and crocheters at all levels. Beginners are very welcome. Wool and knitting needles are provided.

Film club

A weekly group covering a wide range of genres. See notices in the library for what's on at the next film screening.

First Friday Club

The club hosts monthly talks from guest speakers on a wide range of subjects. From Senegalese cookery to housing in Southwark and the Windrush generation. All are welcome.

Southwark History Social

Explore Southwark's worldly museum collections and stories while meeting new people. For ages 18 to 35.
