Southwark Inclusive Learning Service (SILS)

Southwark Inclusive Learning Service (SILS) offers full time education to:

  • permanently excluded and dual registered pupils at Key Stage 3 (KS3)
  • permanently excluded pupils at Key Stage 4 (KS4)

A dual registered pupil is a child who is registered at and attends two schools part-time.

SILS also offers outreach support for mainstream schools and academies, including:

  • 'Day-Six' provision (SILS 6), which provides continuity of education for pupils on fixed-term exclusions of over six days
  • education for young parents and pregnant teenagers at our Young Parents Education centre

SILS currently operates at three sites:

SILS 3 KS3 centre

  • Provides flexible learning with a broad and varied curriculum 
  • a safe, nurturing environment for permanently-excluded students and those at risk of exclusion 
  • a focus on re-engaging students with learning and positive behaviour back to school, including multi-agency and therapeutic interventions to meet additional needs

SILS 4 KS4 centre

  • Re-engages Key Stage 4 students with personalised learning plans 
  • pathways into post-16 provision
  • including Southwark College and Street Vibes music sessions, work-related learning, careers guidance with Connexions
  • working with the youth offending service, child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) and Childrens' Social Care

SILS Young Parents Education Centre (YPEC)

  • Offers qualifications to young parents and parents-to-be from 14 to 19 years old to support them to engage with education and learn parenting skills
  • plus access to a range of courses at Southwark College
