Fines for non-attendance

If parents do not make sure their child attends school regularly, we can issue a penalty notice.

If parents do not make sure their child attends school regularly, we can issue a penalty notice.

A penalty notice is a fine they must pay. If they do not pay, we can take them to court.

Fines

The fine is £60 to be paid within 21 days.

The 21 day period begins two days after the date shown on the penalty notice.

If the fine isn't paid within 21 days, it rises to £120 for a further seven days.

If it's still not paid, the matter may be sent for prosecution.

How to pay a fine

You can pay us directly with a debit or credit card. The details will be on the penalty notice form.

If you do not pay the penalty notice fine, you may face a prosecution in the magistrates' court for your child's non-attendance.
