School premises hire

Schools’ governing bodies are responsible for letting school premises and deciding costs.

Schools’ governing bodies are responsible for letting school premises and deciding on how much it costs.

To let school premises, governing bodies must have:

  • a lettings policy setting out priorities of use, delegated authorities and the process
  • a scale of fees and charges, including any deposit requirements
  • the legal agreement between the school and the person or organisation hiring the building

These documents should be reviewed annually.

We can help governing bodies with letting school premises to outside groups.

For example, we can:

  • check that fees cover all of the schools costs
  • help governing bodies create a lettings policy
  • assist in drawing up fair and reasonable charges
  • provide templates for the policy and booking forms
