Selling a Right to Buy or Social HomeBuy home
Contents
Overview
If you sell a Right to Buy or Social HomeBuy home within 10 years of buying it, you usually have to offer it to us first.
This is called the ‘right of first refusal’ and is both:
- a legal requirement
- a condition of your lease or transfer of freehold
You must offer it to us before:
- agreeing a sale on the open market
- new owners can register legal ownership of the property with the Land Registry
This rule does not count for some property sales. Your solicitor should check if your sale is exempt by law (known as exempt disposal).
Check if you need to repay any discount.
