Your rights
Your landlord, or their agent, has legal responsibilities to:
- manage your tenancy fairly
- keep your home in a decent standard of repair
Your rights may be different depending on the type of tenancy you have.
Use the tenancy checker to find out what your rights are.
Rented houses and flats must be ‘fit for human habitation’, which means that they're:
- safe
- healthy
- free from things that could cause serious harm
In some cases, the property must be licensed by the council and comply with certain conditions.
