Southwark Council is pleased to announce the reopening of Fredericks Adventure Playground, Kennington a long-awaited upgrade that transforms the former adventure playground into an accessible space for children aged 8-14 and local families.

Closed in 2019 due to its deteriorating condition, the playground has undergone an over £700,000 redevelopment, now featuring modern play structures, accessible equipment, and landscaped recreational areas designed to meet the needs of the entire community.

The project was informed by extensive consultation with residents to create a design that truly meets the community’s needs. The design, produced by Erect Architecture, prioritises fun, exploration, and inclusivity.

Councillor Portia Mwangangye, Cabinet Member for Children, Schools, and Families, said: "Fredericks Playground is a great example of our commitment to investing in playgrounds on estates. These spaces help bring communities together while inspiring our children to explore, play, and grow. This transformation ensures that all children, regardless of ability, have a place to feel included and have fun”.

Fredericks Playground is now open to the public and ready to welcome local children and families. This milestone reflects Southwark Council’s commitment to investing in high quality play spaces that support the health and wellbeing of residents.
