How we’re investing in you

This year, we want to make sure you know how we’re spending council funds to create good lives for our residents.
How we're investing in you

Your Council tax contributions are a crucial source of funding that supports essential services and amenities that directly benefit all residents. From maintaining local roads and parks, libraries, and social care services, your council tax contribution ensures that our borough remains a safe, thriving, and inclusive place to live.

We use a variety of funding to support the borough, with money sources coming from council tax, government grants, business rates, and more.

Here is how much council funds we spend, per household per month, on vital services:
  • Children’s social services: £47.49
  • Adult social services: £43.31
  • Waste & street cleaning: £22.64
  • Culture & Leisure: £18.85
  • Environmental health & trading services: £5.21
Below are examples of how we’re taking action on your behalf:
  • 100 people who were sleeping rough, assisted into long-term homes
  • 4,000 Start for Life sessions delivered to families
  • 758 survivors of domestic abuse supported
  • 100,000 residents supported through the Cost of Living crisis
  • 5,800 street light upgrades
  • £3m invested in upgrading CCTV across the borough
  • 1038 food hygiene inspections completed
  • 165 new pedestrian crossings installed
  • 1,700 job and apprentice opportunities created

Lead Cabinet Member for Equalities, Democracy and Finances Cllr Steph Cryan said: "We are committed to transparently using your money, along with other funding streams we receive, to enrich our community and uphold the quality of life we all want to enjoy.

"You’ll see above an example of the monthly spend per household, which helps to fund vital services for those in the community who need it most.

"If you are struggling to pay your council tax, or worried about your finances at the moment – there is help available."
