Health worker parking permits

You must get a permit to park in controlled parking zones (CPZs) if you work in healthcare and are doing home visits.

Civil enforcement officers carry out checks using the vehicle registration mark. 

The permit is for:

  • doctors
  • midwives
  • district nurses
  • health visitors
  • physiotherapists
  • mobile opticians
  • occupational therapists.

The costs for a health worker parking permit are £146 for a 1-year permit.

Conditions

You may only use the health worker parking permit when visiting patients. 

The permit applies to one vehicle only.

With a health worker parking permit, you can park for up to 4 hours:

  • on single or double yellow lines, though not where there are loading restrictions
  • in pay and display bays 
  • in shared-use or free parking bays
  • in loading or resident bays

You cannot park:

  • near your workplace just for convenience
  • where there are loading restrictions
  • in special bays like doctor bays, loading bays or disabled bays
  • in red-route areas
  • outside Southwark's boundaries
  • on housing estates

Permit holders must remember:

  • to renew their permit on time
  • fraudulent use may result in the permit being withdrawn
  • that overstaying may result in a parking ticket
