Dropped kerbs and driveways

Apply for a dropped kerb or report an obstruction.

You must not park where there is a dropped kerb from the footway to the road. Or, where the road has been raised to the same level as the footway.

This applies whether or not yellow lines are present.

There are 2 types of dropped kerbs:

  • for pedestrians (normally with a tactile pavement)
  • for vehicles to access off-street areas

It is an offence to park next to a dropped kerb.

Report an obstruction to a dropped kerb or raised carriageway

If a parked vehicle is obstructing a dropped kerb, let us know by:

Our removal operations run from 8:30am to 6:30pm, Monday to Saturday. Mobile patrols may issue parking tickets outside of these hours.

Pedestrian dropped kerbs

Parking near pedestrian dropped kerbs makes it hard for:

  • people using wheelchairs or pushchairs
  • older or disabled individuals to cross the road
  • drivers to see when turning at junctions

If you park and obstruct a pedestrian dropped kerb, you will get a parking ticket and your car may be removed.

Dropped kerbs for off-street access

Cars parked or straddling next to dropped kerbs can be ticketed and removed without warning.

If there are no yellow lines across a driveway to a single property, parking is allowed unless the property owner requests enforcement.

For multiple property driveways, you must not park across these driveways. We actively enforce this rule.

Road markings

We may introduce yellow lines near dropped kerbs for road safety or other reasons.

We no longer install white ‘H-bar’ access protection markings. They are considered unnecessary street clutter and are removed when possible.
