When you park, you must:
- only use marked parking spots
- stay within the white bay lines
- not park on single or double yellow lines
CPZs prioritise parking for residents.
Controlled parking zones (CPZs) prioritise parking for residents. They also help short-term visitors to shops and businesses.
There are 31 different controlled parking zones covering about 60% of Southwark. Each has its own rules.
To find the locations of CPZs in Southwark, see our parking zone map.
The remaining areas also have local parking controls, including:
CPZs are different from restricted parking zones.
When you park, you must:
CPZs operate at various times and days throughout the week. Outside these times, permits are not needed and visitors do not need to pay to park. Each parking bay will have an associated sign with detailed information.
For CPZ identification letters, locations and times of operation:
CPZs with single yellow lines have entry signs at each entrance. These signs tell you when you cannot park.
Some single yellow lines have time plates. These often have longer no-parking times than the rest of the zone. Always read the signs before parking.
Double yellow lines mean no parking at any time. They are in operation 24 hours every day including bank holidays.
Double yellow lines do not need a sign to tell you not to park. They are placed where parking could be dangerous.
Our newest controlled parking zones do not have entry signs or single yellow lines. In these areas, the kerb is either marked with:
This makes parking rules clearer and avoids the need for big entry signs.
Other zones have at least one entry sign. The law says this sign only needs to be on one side of the road. We do not need to put entry signs between zones with the same hours.
In areas without CPZs, we still have:
You need to follow the Department for Transport guidelines for all restrictions. Always check signs and lines before parking to avoid fines.
