Non-material amendment applications - what must be included

Application form

Use the 'Non-material amendment of an existing planning permission' application form from the Planning Portal.

Fill in all relevant parts of the form.

Sign and date the application form before you submit it.

If you're not able to submit your application online, download copies of all application forms from the Planning Portal website.

Why we need this

This is a national requirement set out in The Town and Country Planning (Development Management Procedure) (England) 2015 (as amended).

Cover letter

Provide a letter that explains all the proposed non-material changes you want to make to the approved development.

Make sure you:

-include a list of reference numbers for all original approved documents
-list every proposed amendment
-explain why the amendments are required
-refer to original and amended drawings using reference numbers

Copies of approved drawings

Provide a copy of all the plans, elevation and section drawings that were approved with the original application. 

Amended drawings

Submit amended drawings that show all proposed non-material changes to the approved development.

Make sure you:

-scale plans at 1:100 or 1:50 on A4 and A3 paper size 
-include a scale bar on each plan
-include an updated unique reference number on each drawing
-indicate all proposed amendments, for example by circling or using arrows to show the changes
-include any updated written dimensions
-include details of any updated materials used in the development
