Planning permission guidance
Contents
Overview
We are the local planning authority. We decide whether to allow a proposed development based on a set of policies. This is called planning permission. Most new buildings need it. So do major changes to existing buildings and to land use.
But, certain minor building works do not need planning permission. We call this permitted development. Such changes are likely to have a small effect on neighbours or the environment.
We've put together planning guidance:
- for homeowners
- for businesses
- on listed buildings and conservation areas
- on renewable energy sources
Use the guidance to help understand common issues.
When you're ready to apply, use our step-by-step guide to making a planning application. It will help you on your application journey.
