Rough sleepers
Ill health can be both a cause and a consequence of homelessness. Those who are homeless, particularly rough sleepers, are widely acknowledged to have poor health outcomes and often have complex health needs, including substance misuse and mental health problems, and struggle to access quality health and care services.

Carers
Carers support the health and wellbeing of the people they care for substantially. But evidence suggests carers themselves are at risk of poor physical, mental and financial health outcomes.
Our work shows that there are also significant inequalities faced by this group. Improving the health and wellbeing of carers is an important local priority, both for the carer and for those they provide support to.
Our JSNA recommends 8 areas of action to address the unmet needs of local carers.

Asylum seekers and refugees
Southwark is home to a range of migrant communities. Asylum seekers, refugees and migrant communities face significant barriers to accessing public services. They face specific health and wellbeing challenges as a result of having to leave their countries and travel to the UK in difficult circumstances.
Our JSNA contains nearly 50 recommendations on how to meet the health and wellbeing needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Southwark. These recommendations will support us in achieving our aim to become a borough of sanctuary.
