The Aylesham Centre

How we will deliver the maximum benefit for local people

The redevelopment of the Aylesham Centre will help to refresh Peckham town centre. This is just one of several schemes, proposed or underway, that are intended to boost the neighbourhood and local prosperity.

Southwark works hard with developers to ensure it gets the maximum benefit for local communities. The Aylesham will be no different.

If the project is given planning approval, it will have stringent conditions attached. These are likely to include:

How we will monitor Berkeley

The council has a lot of power to enforce planning agreements. This applies both to delivery of the development itself and to the legal agreements entered into by the developer, including Section 106 agreements.

We monitor (and expect developers to monitor) the social value delivered by projects in the borough. We are currently improving our internal processes for recording this information. We have appointed an officer to standardise our systems across the borough and across developments.

We will check that Berkeley’s proposal, as outlined in the planning application, addresses the requirements of the Development Consultation Charter (PDF, 235kb). We expect that Berkeley will address these requirements.
