For learners who are reasonably confident in garment-making, for example, progressing from our Intermediate Pattern Cut & Make #2.

What you’ll learn

  • more advanced and complex alterations of a pattern or garment
  • how to set in a different sleeve shape or change the silhouette of a trouser leg
  • how different fabric weights change the silhouette and fit
  • how to draft your own pattern and construct a garment of your own design

How the course is taught

The course is tutor-led, with demonstrations, samples, and one-to-one support. 

You'll support and learn from each other through group discussions of work in progress and finished work.

What you'll need

You'll need:

  • a folder
  • A4 paper or notebook
  • pen, pencil, ruler and eraser
  • paper scissors
  • fabric scissors
  • tape measure
  • needles and pins

There's a £5 fee to cover materials used in the first few weeks of your course. 

After that, you need to provide your own fabric, threads and other relevant materials.

After the course

You can enrol in other fashion, textiles or crafts courses at Southwark Adult Learning Service, City Lit or Morley College.

Former learners have gone on to start their own businesses, or into paid and voluntary employment
