Learn how to play acoustic guitar. For beginners and improvers. You do not need to read music to join this course.
This course is for learners wishing to build confidence through playing the acoustic guitar. You do not need to read music to join this course.
Beginners will learn:
- how to choose a guitar
- simple chord sequences and good practice techniques
- how to strum, hold a plectrum, and learn proper posture
- how to sing and play at the same time
- basic lead and melody lines
- basic improvisation skills
- how to learn songs by listening to the recording
- to play in small groups
- how to read the guitar tab
Improvers will learn:
- how to build on prior learning to further develop guitar theory
- technique and performance skills within a growing repertoire of musical genres
Morley College and City Lit have further courses in acoustic or classical guitar and other musical instruments, if you want to continue learning.
How it's taught
You'll be encouraged to play as part of a group, but will also have opportunities to play solo or in small groups.
The aim is to gain a small repertoire of songs or pieces that you can play with others.
You'll have opportunities to ask questions and to discuss your progress with the tutor and others.
What to bring
Bring a guitar if you have one and a notebook.
