This course is suitable for beginners and more experienced sewers. You'll be able to make items that are suitable for your skill level.

Gain confidence in your work and skills so you can take on more complex sewing projects. 

On completion, you can continue learning on one of our other sewing or craft courses, or at City Lit or Morley College. 

Former students have gone on to start businesses, or have moved into paid and voluntary work.

What you’ll learn

You'll learn how to copy a favourite garment or remodel one.

You can bring alterations, repairs, a commercial pattern or sewing project.

Beginners will be taught how to use a sewing machine.

You'll all be advised on the suitability of your projects.

How it's taught

Courses are tutor-led with demonstrations and one-to-one support. 

You'll support and learn from each other through group discussions on work in progress and finished work.

What to bring

You should bring:

  • a folder
  • A4 paper or notebook
  • pen, pencil, ruler and eraser
  • a garment to copy or alter
  • fabrics
  • paper scissors
  • fabric scissors
  • tape measure
  • pins

There's a £5 fee to cover materials used in the first few weeks of your course. 

After that you need to provide your own fabric, threads and other relevant materials.
