First aid is the first and immediate assistance given to any person with a minor or serious illness or injury. 

You'll learn how to:

  • provide care to preserve life

  • prevent the condition from worsening

  • promote recovery until medical services arrive

On completion of the course you'll be prepared to apply your skills to a variety of emergency situations.

What you'll learn

  • responsibilities of a first aider
  • how to assess a situation and get help
  • resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation awareness
  • burns
  • choking
  • dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • minor injuries
  • epilepsy
  • basic hygiene in first aid
  • bleeding control
  • shock 

How it’s taught

The course is led by a specialist tutor and will include:

  • learning from demonstrations

  • participation in practical activities (you'll need to be able to do this on the floor as in a real-life situation)

  • videos and audio teachings

  • group discussions
