ESOL at Thomas Calton Centre

We welcome both beginners and advanced speakers to our classes.

We offer a range of ESOL courses at different levels for residents who need to learn English, including:

  • Pre-entry for beginners
  • Entry 1, 2, 3
  • Level 1
  • Level 2

The courses develop a full range of skills and competencies in speaking, listening, reading and writing English. We offer ESOL courses at different times, including morning, afternoon and evening classes. There's access to nationally recognised qualifications accredited by City and Guilds.

Learners at entry level can progress to the higher level ESOL courses at Level 1 and Level 2. All courses include grammar, study skills, British values and employability as well as communication skills for life and work in the UK.

Learners who successfully achieve qualifications after completing their course at Level 2 can progress to other academic or vocationally related courses such as supporting teaching and learning in schools or childcare courses.

We welcome all refugees or asylum seekers to apply for our ESOL courses

New Ukrainian arrivals under the Ukraine Family Scheme and Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme are eligible to attend our free ESOL classes.
