English and Literacy

Autumn 24 enrolment week at Southwark Adult Learning Service

Please drop in for a short interview and literacy skills check during these times:

Monday 2 September to Friday 6 September, 10am to 2.30pm each day
Monday 16 September and Wednesday 18th September between 5pm and 8pm

We ask you to complete a skills check so we can place you on the best course for your learning needs and future progress.

English and literacy

Would you like to be more confident with your literacy skills? Are you trying to improve your skills to gain access to further study or gain qualifications to improve your career prospects? Or you may wish to increase your confidence in using English in daily life.

Our courses range from basic literacy for beginners to Functional English at Level 2 and include:

Reading and writing - Literacy for beginners
Bridge to Functional English at Entry 1
Get Ready for Functional English Entry 2
Get Ready for Functional English Entry 3
Functional English Level 1
Functional English Level 2
Functional English Level 2 online course

These courses will update your skills level, with a theoretical and practical application for the world of work and further study. You will be supported to develop the skills that employers require. You will have the opportunity to gain a recognised City and Guilds’ qualification that will improve your job or future study prospects in a highly changing market.

How to enrol

To enrol on one of our courses you must attend a skills consultation to check your current level of skills and knowledge.

Please note this is by a pre-arranged appointment only - Literacy and English skills consultations are held on Wednesdays from 1pm to 3.30pm at the Thomas Calton Centre and will help to place you on the right course for your level.
