What you’ll learn

These courses will help you build on your existing IT knowledge for home and the workplace. 

Basic digital skills are important in almost every area of life, whether you want to make an appointment, bank online, search for a job or keep in touch with friends and family. 

You can also learn how to be confident using a computer for work purposes and/or for key tasks of everyday life.

You will learn how to be safe and responsible online.

Ready learners can be entered for the City & Guilds IT exam and can gain a qualification at entry level.

How the courses are taught

Our courses are classroom-based and taught using various online tools and practical tasks to practise and test your new skills and knowledge.

After the course

We also offer functional skills IT City & Guilds qualifications recognised by employers and in further education.

Who the course is for

This course is suitable for people with minimal or no digital skills who want to build confidence using the internet to look for work and develop basic Microsoft Office skills.

What you’ll learn

You will learn how to develop skills to:

  • use your device
  • use the internet
  • stay safe and secure online
  • use email

You will also have the opportunity to develop skills in:

  • finding a job online
  • using Office programs
  • staying in touch with people using online tools

How the course is taught

The course is taught using modelling through an online learning platform, and practical activities.

Materials you’ll need

  • you may want to bring a notebook to make some notes
  • laptops will be provided in the classroom, but you can also use your personal laptop

After the course

You will be able to progress onto a more advanced Digital Skills course once you complete our introductory course.

Python programming for beginners (FULL)

Who the course is for

Designed for those with no prior experience of programming, this course is a great opportunity to transform your career and learn essential Python programming skills.

What you’ll learn

  • practical skills for automated task management
  • how to analyse and visualise data effectively
  • you will gain hands-on experience with real-world projects

How the course is taught

The course is taught using modelling videos, demonstrations and practical activities. 

You will be expected to complete set project work between the fortnightly on-site sessions.

Materials you’ll need

  • you may wish to bring a notebook to make some notes
  • laptops will be provided in the classroom, but you can also use your personal laptop

After the course

You will have a solid foundation in Python programming and a portfolio of projects to showcase your new skills to potential employers.

Digital skills starter workshop

Who is the course for

Suitable for people with little or no digital skills who want to build confidence and become computer literate.

What you’ll learn

You will learn how to develop skills to:

  • use a laptop
  • use the internet
  • stay safe and secure online
  • use email
  • use basic Microsoft Office apps

You will also have the opportunity to develop skills relating to the topics below:

  • finding a job online
  • using Office programs
  • staying in touch with people online

How the course is taught

The course is taught using modelling and simulations through an online learning platform, as well as doing practical activities.

Materials you’ll need

  • you may wish to bring a notebook to make some notes
  • laptops will be provided in the classroom, but you can also use your personal laptop

After the course

Once you complete our introductory course, you will be able to progress to a more advanced Digital Skills course.
