Join the Castellers of London for a Day of Culture and Community at The Blue Market! The Castellers of London are thrilled to return, showcasing the breathtaking art of building human towers, or Castells, and there is a chance to have a taste of Catalonia with the Calçots with romesco sauce.
The Catalan Castells (or human towers) dates back more than 200 years, with Castellers of London performing and promoting this tradition in London since 2015. They set up their training site in Bermondsey and annually celebrate Calçotada in The Blue Market Place – a feast of Calçots and Romesco Sauce, a vegetable like a leek or green onion which is barbequed and served with a creamy nutty dipping sauce. Catalan families travel from around the UK for to enjoy traditional Catalan performance and food in London. This year Catalonia holds the distinction of being the World Region of Gastronomy so come and taste this unique food for yourself! It is an open invitation for everyone to learn about the Castells, taste Calçots and even try taking part in a tower yourself during a free workshop supervised by our skilled Castellers.
Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to experience Catalan culture right here on your doorstep and while you’re here, shop, eat, drink, and have fun with family and friends in The Blue, a cherished traditional South London Market Place.
