Step into the bright and beautifully restored Walworth Road Town Hall for a day of creativity and calm. Join designer and textile artist Tihara Smith for a Raffia Embroidery Workshop on 29 March 2025, set in this historic and beautiful venue. Relax and find mindfulness through this hands-on raffia embroidery experience inspired by the Caribbean. 


In today's fast-paced world, it's more important than ever to find healthy ways to de-stress and connect with others," says Tihara Smith. "Raffia embroidery is a meditative and enjoyable craft that provides numerous mental health benefits, including reduced anxiety, improved focus, and a sense of accomplishment."


Whilst the workshop is for beginners, experienced embroiders are welcome to come to experience swapping traditional cotton threads for raffia. 
 

About the Workshop


This beginner-friendly workshop is designed to guide participants through the fundamentals of raffia embroidery. All you need is the enthusiasm to try something new.


You will be guided by the expertise of Tihara Smith, with all materials and equipment provided, attendees can choose between crafting a floral hibiscus flower or a tropical monstera leaf design. Plus, the workshop offers the flexibility for particpants to complete their creations at home if needed.


About the Teacher: Tihara Smith


Leading this creative workshop is Tihara Smith, a fashion designer and textile artist known for her expertise in raffia embroidery. Tihara's journey with this intricate craft began when she designed and created her Windrush-inspired graduate collection which was showcased at Graduate Fashion Week. She has since gone on to provide workshops for the Victoria & Albert Museum, Somerset House and other organisations.
