Expenses

Councillors can claim expenses for some costs that fall outside their member’s allowance. Each claim is assessed against guidance in our constitution.

The kind of expenses that can be claimed include:

  • travel as part of duties
  • subsistence if away from home as part of duties
  • child care and dependent carer allowance
  • some operational costs

We publish details of some categories of member expenses, including those paid on behalf of members, as part of a commitment to openness. 

These figures should only be used for comparison purposes with great care, because councillors have different responsibilities and personal circumstances.

We’ve shared this page so it is on public record. We have also shared the statutorily required annual publication of member allowances and prescribed expenses, which we are legally required to share.
