Licensed premises gaming machine permit
If you sell alcohol and hold a licence under the Licensing Act 2003 and you wish to operate category C and D gaming machines, you must apply for a permit or submit a notification.
If you want to operate category C or D gaming machines in licenced premises where alcohol is sold, you must:
- apply for a gaming machine permit to operate three or more machines
- send a notification to operate up to two gaming machines
You must already have a licence to sell alcohol and hold entertainment on your premises.

You can also use the form to:
- make changes to an existing gaming machine permit
- transfer an existing gaming machine permit to another person
Permits do not expire unless the holder no longer has an alcohol licence, or the alcohol licence itself lapses.
There is an annual fee payable for a gaming machine permit.

Send a gaming machine notification if you operate up to two gaming machines on your licensed premises.

If the alcohol licence is transferred to another person, you must also apply for the notification to be transferred.
If the alcohol licence lapses the gaming machine notification is no longer valid.

You will need to pay the first fee 30 days after receiving the permit and then annually. We may take away a permit if the annual fee is not paid.

You can appeal to the magistrates’ court if your application for a gaming machine permit is refused.
