Mayor’s Good Work Standard

Find out about the Mayor's Good Work Standard.

We are one of the first local authorities signed up to the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard(link is external). We want to encourage Southwark businesses to become accredited to this standard.

The Mayor’s Good Work Standard sets the highest level of employment standards. It helps employers to improve their organisations and contribute to a fairer and more inclusive London economy.

London employers, professional bodies, and experts have developed the standard.

It's organised into four main themes:

  • fair pay and conditions
  • workplace wellbeing
  • skills and progression
  • diversity and recruitment

Achieving the Good Work Standard can help you:

  • attract, recruit and retain the best skills and talent
  • reduce staff absences and sick leave
  • get higher levels of employee engagement and motivation
  • increase productivity
  • reduce business costs
  • increase your reputation

To sign up for the Good Work Standard, you must:

  • Complete a self-assessment(link is external) on the Mayor of London website. This focuses on the legal requirements for employers to provide a safe and fair workplace.
  • If the self-assessment shows you meet the minimum standards you’ll be asked for evidence for these to become accredited to either ‘achievement’ or ‘excellence’ standard.
  • Your evidence will be looked at by a panel of assessors who will then let you know if you meet the Good Work Standard and to what level.
