Library activities for babies and toddlers

The Bookstart programme offers free books to children and guidance materials for parents and carers. It’s a national programme that aims to develop a love of books in all children.

Bookstart sessions

Our libraries and Children's and Family Centres offer Bookstart sessions for children from 0 to 4 years old and their parents or carers. Each session includes singing, educational play, storytelling, and much more. No booking is required; you can just drop in.

All sessions take place during term time and will not run during school holidays.

Bookstart baby packs

Every child in England and Wales is entitled to a free Bookstart pack before 12 months old. 

Bookstart gives additional needs packs for babies and toddlers, as well as dual-language books.
