Library activities for babies and toddlers

Find out what our libraries can offer children aged 0 to 5 to keep them entertained and help their development

Story, music and play sessions

We offer regular activity sessions for children aged 0 to 4 at Southwark libraries so that young children can: 

  • have fun
  • spend time with other children of a similar age
  • develop their concentration, listening and comprehension, and fine motor skills

They are free and there’s no need to book. Space is limited, so arrive early.

What’s on

There are 3 kinds of sessions:

  • Baby and toddler groups: free play, singing, storytelling and a simple craft activity, lasts between 45 and 90 minutes
  • Rhymetime: singing, rhymes, rhythm and movement, lasts between 30 and 60 minutes
  • Bookstart: singing, educational play, storytelling and a simple craft activity, lasts between 60 and 90 minutes 

Mondays

  • Baby and toddler session at Camberwell Library, 11am to 11.30am (term time only)
  • Baby and toddler session at John Harvard Library, 10.30am to 11.30am
  • Bookstart at Blue Anchor Library, 10am to 11am (term time only)
  • Bookstart at Brandon Library, 2pm to 3.30pm (term time only)
  • Bookstart at Canada Water Library, 10am to 11.30am (term time only)
  • Rhymetime at Grove Vale Library, 11am to 11.30am
  • Rhymetime at Peckham Library, 2pm to 2.30pm (term time only)

Tuesdays

  • Baby and toddler session at Peckham Library, 10.30am to 12pm (term time only)
  • Bookstart at Camberwell Library, 10am to 11am (term time only)
  • Rhymetime at Canada Water Library, 2.15pm to 2.45pm (term time only)
  • Story and colour time at Dulwich Library, 11am to 11.30am

Wednesdays

  • Bookstart at Peckham Library, 10am to 11.30am
  • Bookstart at Una Marson Library, 10am to 11.30am (term time only)
  • Rhymetime at Dulwich Library, 10.30am to 11am (term time only)
  • Rhymetime at Walworth Library, 10.30am to 11am (term time only)

Thursdays
