Description

The highlight of Southwark's 2023 Cultural Celebrations calendar returns to Camberwell Green on Sunday 28th July 2024.

The event will be inaugurated by Nananom Enstooled & Enskinned and Progressive (All of whom are recognised by Otumfuo Nana Osei Tutu II at Manyhia Palace).
Last year's event concluded with a surprise performance from Highlife superstar, Samini!
With over 1,700 attendees last year, a benchmark was set.

The Akwasidae Festival 2024 will once again celebrate the Culture, Royal Heritage and Chiefs of the Akan in a year that also celebrates Osei Tutu II’s quarter century. The celebration is recognised by all people among the Akan diaspora and exists to give reverence to ancestors of great merit.

This year, the theme of ancestral reverence drives the festival, with a focus on drumming and dance workshops retelling the story of The Golden Stool.

As one of Ghana's most fabled symbols, the historic and mystic nature of its origins will be explored in a family-friendly environment, amongst the beauty and ritual of Ashanti royalty, as we sway to soothing highlife tunes with a plate of delicious jollof and fresh grilled fish…

What more could one ask for on a glorious summer day?!
