If you’ve been asked to leave your home by family or friends
If you’ve been asked to leave your home and you do not have anywhere else to live, contact us as soon as possible.
Southwark Housing Solutions will work with you and the person asking you to leave. We provide mediation options and advice to prevent homelessness.
Leaving home can be a major decision. It requires careful thought and planning. Depending on your circumstances, it’s a good idea to:
- thoroughly research
- consider your budget
- look at the properties available in areas you want to live in
- stay with family or friends for longer so that you can save money, focus on your education and give you time to plan your move

Housing options
Becoming homeless does not mean we will be able to provide you with a council home. Due to the housing crisis, we have over 17,000 households on the waiting list. Depending on your band and priority need, you may be waiting for many years to bid successfully for a council home or Housing Association home.
If you do become homeless, we’ll support you to look for housing in the private rented sector. We would look at your current income and any support needs you have and make sure any housing is suitable.
You can look for your own property. We can help with payments towards a deposit.
We can also help you maximise your income towards rent payments with our partners St Giles and Beam. They can help with training and employment opportunities to increase your income.
