Fitting home adaptations

If you're finding it difficult to get into and around your home we may be able to fit adaptations.

Paying for adaptations

Council tenants

If you're a council tenant you will not have to pay anything towards the costs.

Our housing adaptation team will carry out the work based on the occupational therapy team's recommendations.

Homeowners and private or housing association tenants

You may be entitled to a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) to pay towards adaptations.

The maximum grant is £30,000.

Check if you're eligible, how much you'll get and how to apply.

You'll need an assessment and adaptation recommendation from our occupational therapy team.

Paying yourself

If you're not a council tenant or entitled to the Disabled Facilities Grant you'll need to pay for the adaptation yourself.

You can also get financial advice from our Home Improvement Agency.

If you're self funding, you can still use our approved contractors but there will be a charge for this service.

Arranging your own adaptations

If you get the grant or are self-funding you can arrange your own fittings. They need to be based on the occupational therapy recommendations.

You can choose your own building company, prepare plans and manage the works.

Our surveyor will be able to give advice and sign off the works when complete.
