New business starter guide
This guide is designed to help you access key council business services, including how to report problems and get support with growing your business.
Understanding business rates
Business rates are charged on most non-domestic properties.
We calculate your business rates by multiplying the rateable value of your property by the business rates multiplier, or rate in the pound.
The rateable value is based on the annual rental value at a specified date. It is set by the Valuation Office Agency. The business rates multiplier is set by central government.
We collect business rates to help pay for local services. The amount you have to pay can be reduced in certain circumstances.
Apply for business rate relief
You can find out more information about business rates, including how to apply for rate relief, notify us about a change of circumstances or set up a direct debit.
